About Us

Fight for Kids Foundation’s goal is to empower youth by helping them find their personal strength and resilience, physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Our organization is committed to providing practical solutions for problems that plague the physical and mental health of today’s youth.

We believe that to support children and teens, you first need to be in conversation with them to determine what the issues are. FKF grew from conversations between adults and kids in barber shops, in gyms, and in community spaces around Winooski, VT.

Helping our young people develop social-emotional skills gives them the confidence and strength to avoid negative peer pressure and empowers them to make healthy choices. This benefits our younger community and the community at large.

Our Mission

The mission of the Fight for Kids Foundation, Inc. (FKF) is to provide
at-risk youth and young adults in the community with healthy, safe, and effective ways of communicating, making decisions and protecting themselves,
both mentally and physically.

We aim to increase youth engagement, involvement, and connection with the community to instill a sense of belonging.

The History of Fight for Kids

Fight for Kids Foundation was established in 2009; born out of founder King McMillian’s desire to help youth on a larger scale.

Since its inception, FKF has been providing mentoring and training to low-income youth.

The foundation has planned and facilitated numerous programs and events to benefit less fortunate youth and young adults, including yearly bus rides to the Great Escape amusement park, and a biannual free community breakfast.

FKF offers an anti-bullying program that teaches interpersonal skills training and confidence building through training in mindfulness, martial arts, and boxing. These services are provided at no-cost through the fundraising efforts of the foundation.

Fight for Kids Foundation was granted nonprofit status in 2021, with the goal of being able to establish a larger and permanent space to accommodate a higher number of youth and offer more youth-centered programming.

FKF recently received grant funding for their “Sweat, Flix & Chill” program. The event included functional fitness and mindfulness followed by healthy food and a feature film.

The funding for this project was awarded through the Better Places grant program in 2022, and supported running the program over the course of six weeks.

FKF successfully reached a $5000 fundraising goal through a grassroots fundraising campaign, and received a matching grant of $10,000 from DHCD’s Better Places program.
